Direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology company Adionics has launched a new demonstration plant in Güemes, Argentina, aimed at testing various brines from Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
The company touts its proprietary DLE technology for minimizing water usage and environmental impact. Earlier this year, Adionics completed 1,500 hours of lithium extraction tests using its pilot plant in Chile, located on the premises of SQM, the world’s second-largest lithium producer. The new plant will analyze selected brines to optimize industrialization efficiency, marking Adionics’ third demo plant globally.
In September, Adionics announced a significant advancement in lithium recycling from battery black mass, achieving high-purity lithium extraction with recovery rates of up to 98%.
Given the recent volatility in lithium prices, Adionics believes its efficient extraction and recycling methods could stabilize supply and positively influence the entire electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.
“We will now be able to accelerate our development and gather information to launch basic engineering work for our plants,” stated Adionics CEO Gabriel Toffani. “This project allows us to contribute to local employment and the local economy.”
