Lithium negotiations: the health of current and future generations of this country is being sacrificed

Svetomir Nikolić, a member of the coordination body of the political platform Solidarity, stated today that the claims made by the European Commission member Maroš Šefčovič about the nearing conclusion of negotiations with the authorities in Serbia on a trade agreement enabling the sale and purchase of lithium from the Jadar Valley are very serious, Solidarity announced.

“In the midst of the election campaign for local authorities, far from the public eye, the health of current and future generations of the inhabitants of this country is being sacrificed in exchange for symbolic mining royalties and support for domestic hybrid stabilitocracy in yet another cycle of indebtedness and corrupt distribution of spoils between foreign and domestic clientele of regime parties,” said Nikolić.

Nikolić noted that it is an open question whether, after such news, anyone can believe that the “so-called friendly part of the international community will stand up for our civil and political rights since they are ready to turn a blind eye to violations of the right to life and health of us and our descendants.”

“As has happened many times before, the inhabitants of our country are left to themselves in a struggle that takes place everywhere and at every place available to us, in our country and on our streets, in front of institutions or within them, at polling stations and in assemblies, at the local and national levels,” said Nikolić.
